Perspectuus

My family moved around a lot when my parents were together. My dad was in the military. It was a really nice way of life because my parents were together and my mom was a stay-at-home mom. She took care of us a lot. My dad provided for the family. We went to a religious-based private charter school so we had to wear uniforms. It was a perfect life. My parents were together. Then my parents got divorced when I was in 3rd grade. My mom moved to Vegas because that’s where her mom was and that’s where she grew up. My dad stayed in Colorado for a little while. I was with my mom. We moved here and I was with my mom from 4th grade until graduating high school.

The beginning was okay because we stayed with my uncle and my grandmother who lived together. They lived in a really nice house. We lived there for maybe a year or two, and then my mom moved out because she had to go back to school to become a teacher. She was doing that while we were staying with our uncle. It was really nice because my dad was paying child support so we were able to have money to have a decent living. Then my dad stopped paying child support so we had to move. Before he stopped he moved us to a house in the suburbs that was really nice. Then we couldn’t afford it anymore so we had to move to a place that was lower in socioeconomic status.

My mom really struggled a lot because teachers don’t get paid that much. She had to support my sister and I and my dad wasn’t supporting us at all until we graduated from high school. I think the majority of my life was being with a single mom with my dad barely supporting us. I remember my mom told me how, when they were getting divorced, the judge told him that “Their mom is getting the majority of the custody, but you can still have a relationship with your kids.” “You can still talk to them, call them, and sustain a relationship.” My dad didn’t do that. He barely called us. Our relationship now isn’t really anything. He is just whatever to me. I don’t really talk to him a lot. Every once in a while.

I would say I’m really nice. When I was growing up I felt like I was too nice to where it hurt me. People would take advantage of me. I had to learn how not to be super nice, not to be mean, but to just not be so gullible. I learned to be smart, too. I learned a lot of that through high school. I’d like to say I have some type of charisma and I’m funny. I like to listen to other people’s perspectives. I’m always looking for more knowledge. I’m curious, driven, and motivated. I have had to really pound in all my motivation and to be very responsible because in college there are a lot of distractions. I was a Science major. My first two years I partied, but then I couldn’t go out with my friends and party. I had to stay motivated. I had to study a lot, for hours, for tests. I would say I am very motivated.

I’m really not religious. I know a lot of religions don’t accept gay marriage and abortions so I can see how a lot of people who are very religious will a certain ideology. I feel like I’m more free and fluid because I’m not one-minded. I will look at other points of view. I think that made me more fluid in my thinking about things and I’m able to change my mind about things.

ABORTION

I’m totally pro-choice, but there are some instances where it’s too late to abort the baby because it’s grown. That’s when you’re pretty much killing a person. I believe society should not tell a woman what to do with her body, at all. I don’t even understand why that was even a thing. If abortion is outlawed, I feel like a lot of women would be stuck in horrible situations. I feel like people who do get abortions might know that they’re not ready to have a child and they won’t be able to raise a child right. They are saving the child from growing up with things wrong.

LGBTQ+ RIGHTS

They should have all the rights. They’re human beings. They deserve everything that heterosexual people deserve. I don’t understand. I can’t see the other side. I feel like the other side is so ignorant to the fact that they are just human beings.

RACIAL MOVEMENTS

I know that it’s starting to be a movement and it’s starting to change things that should have been changed a long time ago. All movements die down, but I’m hoping that all these reforms happen from this movement. I feel like we’ll just keep fighting until it does happen. It might get even more heated and violent instead of peaceful protests. Or, it might black out the economy because money does talk. I’m really happy that this is finally happening. I’m learning all these things. I knew that we were behind. I didn’t exactly know everything that put us behind like the red lining and bringing down black businesses back in the day. We could have been up there with the white people with all the businesses, having money to pass down to our generation, but they literally did not want us to be at their level. They kept on pushing us back until we’re actually living behind.

I remember in the beginning, when this whole thing happened, I was very emotional. I was crying. It was a lot. I saw the true colors of some of the people in my life. It hurt. There was a lot of growing and getting over the shock of what’s happening. People like that made me so sad and I’d hate them, but then I thought that if they were ignorant I could have a good conversation with them so they could see it. Once they see it they’ll be better. It’s the people that don’t see it and they don’t care and they are racist. Those people are terrible people. The majority are just ignorant and they need to educate themselves. Hopefully I can help the people in my circle to see, because that will change everything.

CAPITALISM

Capitalism and money is the greatest enemy to mankind. Money makes people do the craziest things that they would never do, like kill people, or steal, or drive their loved ones away. Even though it’s a way to change things and is a structure that helps us, it makes people do a lot of things that are crazy.

CLIMATE CHANGE

I don’t understand why people don’t see proof and scientific evidence that the world is dying. There is proof in front of your face! Hopefully our leaders can change. We as a people can’t because the leaders control everything. I hope that we can elect leaders who actually think that it’s real. There is evidence and that we can start doing something about it. You’re going to have all the money in the world, but if the earth is dead, you’re going to die, and there’s no point. All of these people who would rather have all this money, all of these horrible corporations that are polluting the earth are not going to be anything if the world is dying.

The world will start being uninhabitable. If we don’t turn around in a certain amount of time, it will be too late to fix things. That’s terrifying. It will be an ugly, terrifying future if we don’t turn around.

IMMIGRATION

I think immigration is great because honestly that’s how America was born. That’s how we are so good at everything because we have input from all different cultures. We have food from all different cultures. America is what it is because of immigrants. The whole ICE thing sickens me, kids in cages. I don’t understand. I don’t believe that people are illegal. They’re human beings. I believe in immigration and support it.

Future Doctor

"I am studying to go into the medical field. I will hopefully be a successful doctor who is changing people’s lives, helping minorities, and reforming the healthcare system."
